Washington State Law requires that ALL security officers undergo a minimum of eight hours of basic state security officer training prior to deployment in the field as security guards and that an additional eight hours of annual follow-up and review training be conducted as well.
The State of Washington does not require this training for companies that are not licensed or registered as Security Guard companies such as department stores who employ their own internal security and shoplifting or risk management personnel. However, it is highly recommended that such companies consider providing this training in order to insure compliance with state and local laws and reduce liability. If you are such a company, you are encouraged to contact STSI for an evaluation of your training program or to receive additional training for your security employees.
The purpose and objective of STSI training is three-fold:
(1) To provide the security officer with the basic tools needed to perform the job responsibly
(2) To satisfy State Guard training requirements
(3) To reduce the liability exposure to the employer
The STSI class is designed to cover all aspects of the security profession utilizing THE ROLE OF THE SECURITY OFFICER- the 320 page training manual written by Michael Jaquish specifically to cover all required Washington State training requirements. (If you prefer to conduct this training with your own in-house trainer, this manual may be purchased from STSI. Contact Michael Jaquish if interested.)
